“Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.” Ephesians 1:4-5 The Message
God’s adoption joy …?
That would be …you! He created this world and filled it with people and everything else. And then it broke … actually “we” broke God’s heart. Then God decided to heal this broken world of broken men and broken women by becoming perfectly broken … it was the only way. So He came looking for you .. even when you weren’t interested or thought He wasn’t all that special. You weren’t religious and He was. You thought He wanted you to act a certain way or behave in a certain manner before He would accept you. Actually .. He wanted you just the way you were when He found you .. messed up .. broken .. angry .. betrayed .. and worn out on the inside (and maybe the outsides as well!). Nothing makes God smile more than when you turned your heart over to him and said .. “If you want me .. you can have me .. I ain’t much but I’m yours from now on”. It was all very simple at the beginning .. God’s Adoption Plan. As you walk along with Jesus you begin to realize just how far He went to bring you home .. how far into your life .. your past .. your mess .. that He stepped into and actually “took on” as His own. He wouldn’t have it any other way … He wanted you that much. He still wants you today … whole and expectant in this broken and failing world .. looking to Him for strength .. receiving His love .. and living like you know the whole story .. because you do! You belong to the Adopting One who knows you for you really are … His adopted son and daughter .. first name basis .. “Papa”. It isn’t a temporary adoption. He’s not going to send you back. At the end of your name is your last name …. “in-Christ”. He can handle your questions .. your wounds .. your doubts .. your frustrations .. and even your impatience of His plans. In all of this He is shaping and sealing your life in His perfect love. Do you really want to try it on your own any longer? Do you really want to live like all the orphans you see everyday in the world you live in? Do you …? It only takes a moment …
“This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with childlike “What’s next Papa?” God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are.” Romans 8:15-16 The Message
