“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Romans 8:35-37 English Standard Version

Who .. What .. When .. or Where …?

Life happens in moments. You make plans. You assume outcomes. You trust yesterday’s patterns. You operate on what appears normal. And then life happens. In a moment .. you are left with the barest skeleton of this coat-holding-stone-throwing-authorizing author of these words. You can get angry. That is expected. You can pretend it isn’t happening. That feels normal. You can try to control the consequences. That feels safe. You can try to hold it all inside. That feels mature. Who can separate you from the love of Christ? No one really but anyone can stand in the way. What can separate you from the love of Christ? Nothing .. but it feel like the smallest attachments or all the “things” that hold your life together. When can you be separated from the love of Christ? Never … but there are moments and minutes when you may feel all alone and abandoned. Where can you be separated from the love of Christ? There isn’t anyplace .. but .. there are moments when you may think that God is not present or abiding in you at that moment. Jesus left these words with his disciples and for every follower of Christ in history: “I Am With You Always, Even To The End of The Age” .. “I’ll Be With You As You Do This, Day After Day, Right Up To The End Of The Age” .. “And Be Sure Of This: I Am With You Always, Even To The End Of The Age.” Every day of your life is lived in this promise. It is the grace-gripping promise of Jesus to everyone who trusts in His crucified-risen life. There are no places so dark that Jesus cannot see you or see into your heart. There are no persons that can take the greatest treasure of your life: Life in Christ. There are no possessions greater than His possession of you. You can’t be separated from the love of God in Jesus Christ. The truth of Paul’s words and the abiding, indwelling promise of Jesus’ words are tested in our lives everyday. There is One Promise … made by Jesus .. and written by His blood into the deepest places of your life. Life happens … it only takes a moment …

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39 English Standard Version

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
