“It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, has designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.” Ephesians 1:13-14 The Message
Searching for the real you …?
You can remake yourself on the outside. You can even try to find yourself through causes .. new purposes .. and new addresses. There are variations upon variations of “promises” you can make to yourself or pursue with the hopes that you will be someone different. There is only one openly-crucified-promise that guarantees your freedom and life’s identity: In Christ. “We” usually try to find a life we like and then offer it to the Lord for His blessing or protection. But life in Christ starts when “we” finally come to the end of ourselves and accept (wholeheartedly) His life for our life. It seems strange that we “find” our true selves as we grow in our relationship with Christ. Actually, what is strange is that we “find” our true selves as Christ’s life is growing more and more in us. You not only find what you have surrendered but you find more of who you really are and the freedom that is yours by God’s design. The best you can design is ‘freedom from’. God’s design is ‘freedom for’. Your new life is Messiah-made .. Cross-freed .. Abundantly free! Most of us don’t live this way daily .. sadly enough. But … Jesus is finishing what He started in you. The good news is that you don’t have to keep trying to figure this out on your own .. any longer. “It’s in Christ” you find out who you are. It seems simple enough .. almost too simple. God’s not playing games or trying to confuse you about growing up free in His love and His life. What are you living for? You could probably write that answer down immediately. You may not like to think about it because it makes you feel guilty or it threatens the world you live in or built for yourself. That isn’t God’s aim .. to make you feel guilty. He wants you to know and feel abundantly alive in His Son. He wants you to love the real you that He designed a long time ago. The real you … is in Christ. It only takes a moment …
“Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah, his blood poured out on the altar of the Cross, we’re a free people — free of penalties and punishment chalked up by all our misdeeds. And not just barely free, either, Abundantly free! Ephesians 1:7-8 The Message
