“What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven — and the future starts now! 1 Peter 1:3-4 The Message
How do you live a brand new life …?
You’ve been given a brand new life … in Christ. Think about it … a brand new life. How are you going to live it? Try to make fewer mistakes? Sin less? Be kinder .. more merciful .. less angry? Or … is there something far better and unimaginable happening inside of you? Your brand new life is Christ. It’s His life that is your fresh start .. second/third/ fourth chance(?) .. new beginning .. secure future. There is a whole new way to love and be loved .. a whole new way to think about the world you live in .. and a whole new way of life that you can’t live on you own. You can downplay the unique “job” you’ve been given. You’re chosen .. that word alone sets your life out in the open. You’ve been “called” and assigned the work of being a priest .. someone whose life and energies are identified with loving God and loving others. Your brand new life is so unique that you’ve been given God’s indwelling Spirit to tell .. to share .. to describe in a winsome manner how Christ changed everything about you. And everything about this brand new life is organically and intimately connected to Jesus being raised from the dead. His resurrection life has become your brand new life. You’ll still make mistakes .. sometimes hurt others by your words and actions .. sometimes act selfishly .. sometimes try to resurrect that dead old life. Those things will weigh you down .. cause you deep grief .. and even try to make you “feel” like you’ve lost the new life you’ve been given. Your “once-rejected but “now-accepted” life is guaranteed by Christ’s life in you. This new life you have comes from Jesus. It doesn’t mean that you have to change. There are things in all of our lives that begin to fade as Christ becomes more and more that real focus of our lives. It means when your life is focused on Christ .. you will begin and continue to love the life that He is living in you. It only takes a moment …
“But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you — from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.” I Peter 2:9-10 The Message
