A Natural Death

January 21, 2011

” Now I take limitations in stride, and with good cheer, these limitations that cut me down to size — abuse, accidents, opposition, bad breaks. I just let Christ take over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become.” … Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 .. Philippians 4:13 The Message

Does it “all” have to go …? (4)

“Natural Strongman and Natural Strongwoman”: You were born with it. So was everyone else. It is that human quality of believing you have to find an inner strength in yourself to face whatever is in front of you. It’s a lie .. It’s always been a lie .. It will always remain a lie. You can’t help it either. You can claim it’s not your fault but it really is. Jesus entered our lives by becoming weak. He drove out demons. He healed broken and paralyzed lives. He didn’t defend himself against false accusations. And yet His weakness became the very strength that you need to face yourself and face life. When you fight temptations in your own strength, it is only a matter of time before you will give in. When you try to love others out of your own strength, you will eventually cause more harm than good. When you try to live your life today and ask God to “help you” .. Are you asking Him to take over and be your strength or are you asking Him to support you in your own strength. The strength God gives you is the same strength that raises the dead. Is that the kind of strength you need? An old Major once said: “You can’t .. and God never said you could. He can .. and always said He would.” The world rewards natural strength with promotions and possessions. Jesus learned everything about your weaknesses by becoming weak .. facing temptations .. facing enemies .. facing suffering .. and facing the Cross. God renews and restores those who place their trust in Him .. when they are weak .. when they’ve failed .. when they’re at the end of their rope. It isn’t trying harder that gets His attention. It’s trusting deeper and trusting personally in the One who “makes you who you are”. Remember: You’ve been called into a life-long journey of learning to love the life that Christ is living in you. It’s His life that will be your strength today. It only takes a moment …

“It was so bad we didn’t think we were going to make it. We felt like we’d been sent to death row, that it was all over for us. As it turned out, it was the best thing that could have happened. Instead of trusting in our own strength or wits to get out of it, we were forced to trust God totally — not a bad idea since he’s the God who raises the dead!” 2 Corinthians 1:8-9 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
