“I lift up my eyes to the hills, From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.” Psalm 121:1-4 English Standard Version
Where do you look for help … first ..?
There are any number of places within yourself .. other resources .. other people who can help you. Your ‘old life’ .. that fading part of you that tries to hold on and pretends to do good things in you .. promises to help out. The “inside you” often tries to run ahead and perform help reconnoissance. But there is Only One Help that brings freedom into the midst of any situation you are facing. This Helper never sleeps. He’s never distracted or diverted by other voices or greater needs. He’s stronger and more comforting that mountain ranges. He’s never dulled by the frequency of your needs. He loves to help. There is an old song of Christ Followers that rings: “Let thy goodness like a fetter bind my wandering heart to Thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love. Here’s my heart Lord, take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above.” It sings true when you are all alone or when you are in the midst of crowd. It is the song of God’s Spirit lifting your head to remind you that you belong to Him .. in Christ .. through Christ .. with Christ .. and for Christ. And time and time again we have to lift our eyes beyond the help we need and look to the One who is our Help! There is no freedom apart from the Lord. Where He is … there is His freedom .. and there is your freedom .. and there is your help. Your ‘new life’ .. that forever-changed part of you that is whole and being made whole in Christ at the same time .. is designed to look up .. first. It’s where you are reminded that He is your “keeper” and He never takes a break. Where will you look first today? It only takes a moment ..
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Corinthians 3:17 English Standard Version
**** Grace-Gripped will be suspended this week while I am undergoing a right knee replacement. Yep .. new knee .. pre-glorified version but blessed for present day use. Rehabilitation will require several months. Was reminded last night that my Help in the middle of an anxious night was not more internet facts but His Indwelling Life. I’m glad God never sleeps. Carolyn and I widely welcome your prayers and are grateful for your love, friendship, and support…. Ken ****
Grace-Gripped will resume January 31 … Shalom …
