“Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God.” Romans 7:4 English Standard Version

Does He really mean it …?

You had to die to all those “dominating rules” that promised to make life work. They work for awhile but eventually you lose all your freedom and become more of what you despise about yourself. The only way you ever belong to Jesus is to place your living-but-dead life in His died-but-risen life. It seems so easy but we fight the smallest of changes .. we hold on to hidden flaws .. and we harbor the most paralyzing strains of forgiveness and shame. “I’ve tried everything and nothing helps. I’m at the end of my rope.” When it comes to sin and the withering power of your old life .. God is sin-searingly serious about giving you a new life .. a new love .. and a new power for living that is cross-searingly ablaze in your heart. He means it! He’s set things right so that you won’t have to act like you’re in control .. act like you’ve got it together .. and act like someone you’re not. You don’t have to act like anything in Christ. You belong to Him. Whatever is dominating you .. you can give it to Jesus. It only takes a moment…

“I’ve tried everything and nothing helps. I’m at the end of my rope. Is there no one who can do anything for me? Isn’t that the real question? The answer, thank God, is that Jesus Christ can and does. He acted to set things right in this life of contradictions where I want to serve God with all my heart and mind, but am pulled by the influence of sin to do something totally different.” Romans 7:24-25 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
