“Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.” Proverbs 3:5-6 The Message
What are you reaching for …?
Trusting God is about the “first things” of your life. It says a lot about who you are. It says a lot about who you aren’t. You live in a figure it out on your own world. That’s all you “can do” when you’ve heard over and over that life is what you make it. Trusting God isn’t about being religious. It’s about you and how you’ve decided to live your life. It’s about you and how you’ve decided to quit living life based on you being in the center. Trusting God from the bottom of your heart means you’ve relaxed your grip and instead opened your hands to be gripped by the One whose grip never slips. The bottom of your heart is more often a last resort than a first reserve. You usually arrive spent .. anxious .. broken .. weak .. fearful .. and faith-weary. But the bottom of your heart is exactly where the Lord meets you. There are fewer distractions when you’ve reached the bottom. And God …? He’s never one who measures your life on what you’ve achieved ..acquired .. or attained on your own. He sees what your life will become when He is True Voice you listen for .. the True Word you fill your mind with .. and the True Love you’ve become convinced that makes life worth living. A 700-wives king (Solomon) wrote about trusting the Lord as the foundation for keeping on track. A newly promoted nation-leader(Joshua) recorded his daily task for delivering a promised people into a promised land. Your life is not different. You may face a full day of choosing which path to take. You may face a day where the path is blocked and the way forward unclear. You’ll also face a day of choosing Who you are going to trust today: The Lord .. your self .. or some other source? And Jesus … where does He fit in? He’s at the bottom of your heart. He’s patiently waiting to direct your path. He’s there to be your life today and help you learn how to love the life He will live in you. It only takes a moment …
“This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” Joshua 1:8-9 New American Standard
