“When they crucified him, the Roman soldiers took his clothes and divided them up four ways, to each soldier a fourth. But his robe was seamless, a single piece of weaving, so they said to each other, “Let’s not tear it up. Let’s throw dice to see who gets it.” John 19:23 The Message

The Fool’s True Riches

At the end of his life .. Jesus had a seamless robe. His personal property was confiscated .. but the robe was considered so valuable that only gambling could decide the lucky winner. Maybe it became a family heirloom .. handed down through the years .. it’s value increasing as Jesus’ life multiplied throughout the land. He didn’t have a permanent home address. He isn’t known for accumulating wealth .. property .. or prestige. He could find gold coins in fish mouths .. He multiplied bread and fish .. He gave a widow back her dead son .. He raised his friend Lazarus from the dead. He was seen talking with Moses and Elijah .. and yet .. He became poor so that you could become rich. Jesus wore all of the seams of your life so that His life might become the seamless whole of your life. You might have a lot of seams holding your life together. You may not have many .. but .. everyone has seams. We live in a world that prizes seamless living as the aim and goal. But God entered into your seam-filled world that you’ve tried to hide .. replace .. and discard. He didn’t gamble for your life. He willingly surrendered his seamless life and put on your seam-filled life so that your life could be made seamless. You are His true riches .. filled with the riches of His grace .. made for the riches of His glory .. made alive .. whole .. and forgiven through the riches of His crucified risen life. He is only a Fool in the eyes of this world .. to give up everything to gain everyone who trust in His seamless life. The richness and riches of Christ are yours today. It may not feel that way .. but it’s true. He spent His riches to buy you. There isn’t one thing that He held back as His own. You mean that much to Jesus. Whatever you are holding onto? .. Whatever you are concealing? .. Whatever you are trying so desperately to accumulate?  It only takes a moment .. with Him …

“You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.” 2 Cor. 8:9 The New Living Translation

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
