“Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humiliating process. He didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death — and the worst kind of death at that — a crucifixion.” Philippians 2:7-8 The Message
The Jesus Road (3): What is it about Jesus …?
It doesn’t take long to realize that a selfless life is impossible to live. You’re confronted with your self life everyday. You keep trying .. and trying .. and trying only to discover that you can’t seem to change you. That’s why it took (and takes) a Jesus who willingly humbled himself to become human DNA. And He stayed that way all the way through his life. He was selfless in healing others where you would be self-focusing. He was obedient in his work where you would be self-serving. He was executed for being Himself so you could become your new self alive in Christ. He accepts everyone who comes to Him: the abused .. the curious .. the rejected ..the desperate ..the diseased .. and all who’ve tried to live life on their own. Even when it looks like they’ve made it .. they know inside that there is a hole they can’t fill with one more achievement .. one more accomplishment .. or one more activity. He loved everyone who crossed His path .. even if they didn’t know it because their need or fear was so great. His life is described as not being worth a second look .. except that those who have come to the end of themselves find Him offering them a second hand or second chance over and over. His selfless life becomes the source of Life for the selfish .. self-centered .. and self-serving. His life gives you the real message and mission you’re searching for. Jesus doesn’t force himself on anybody .. but once you’ve settled on His life .. he’ll break the force of every power trying to destroy you. What is it about Jesus..? He stayed human so you could never accuse him of being beyond weakness .. beyond temptation .. and beyond overwhelming need. He knows the darkest depths of every humiliation. There is one thing He claimed at the end of His life: You! He didn’t need to claim anything else. So if you are wondering what it is about Jesus that keeps you going today? It just takes a moment ..
“There was nothing attractive about Him, nothing to cause us to take a second look.” Isaiah 53:2 The Message
