“Are you tired. Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me — watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matt. 11:28-30 The Message
Holy designed for a whole life …?
What a laugh God must have at your expense. He designed you .. gave you life .. and came after you to give you fresh start. He knows how hard you to try to make life work on your own terms. You plan carefully. You minimize your risks. You try to be good. It takes us a long time to reach the point of asking God for help. It usually takes us another long time to truly trust and rest in His help. We would never throw our own children in the trash .. but we think God would do exactly that with us if we’re not careful. How He must laugh at our flawed images of Him! And what does He do??? He invites you to get away with me and you’ll recover your life. He actually tells you on the front end what spending time with Him will do in your life. He could have made it a surprise or at least a reward. But instead .. He takes any life offered to Him and turns chaos into Genesis. He is the God of fresh starts .. over and over. Christ makes all things new. He breathes holiness over the places in our lives we think are trash and failures. In that one moment His life became absolute gray. He absorbed all of the “gray exile” of your life on the cross so you would know who brought you back. If you are looking to recover your life .. Jesus makes you a hilarious offer: Come to me .. Get away with me. If you believe in grace but aren’t really walking in it .. Jesus knows how to heal your brokenness and make a “fresh start” in you. He’s not leaving it up to you to do the job. He loves you too much for that. Walk .. Work .. and Watch … are invitations from Jesus for you to “get away” and recover your life. It begins in your heart .. travels through your mind .. and finally exits through your lips as you say to the Lord: Make a fresh start in me. It only takes a moment …
“God, make a fresh start in me, shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life. Don’t throw me out with the trash or fail to breathe holiness in me. Bring me back from gray exile, put a fresh wind in my sails.” Psalm 51:10-12 The Message
