Wayward to Homeward

“I will heal their waywardness. I will love them lavishly. My anger is played out. I will make a fresh start with Israel. He’ll burst into bloom like a crocus in the spring. He’ll put down deep oak tree roots, he’ll become a forest of oaks! …. I’m like a luxuriant fruit tree. Everything you need is to be found in me.” Hosea 14:4-8 The Message

It is an all to familiar sensational story in our lives. A marriage falls apart because a spouse decides someone else will make life better … at least for this moment. The pain in both lives is inescapable and indescribable. In this case God chose a humiliating moment to focus on one marriage to impact a whole nation. God chose Hosea to be a prophet to call His people back to himself .. to invite them back .. to lure them back like a wounded lover .. to pay another lover to return his wife: twice! She didn’t won’t to come back to her home or her children and God used those broken lives to show us what we are like with Him. In our case (or your case in particular) it is the waywardness of our hearts that seek other lovers or some ingredient to fill up the hole inside of our lives. It could be any good thing as well as any number of bad items that seek to lure us into the trap. And God’s response to us .. to you? He comes after  you and does what we cannot imagine: He heals your waywardness with a lavish love and then throws open the doors to give you a fresh start. He doesn’t count the number of times you’ve sampled unripe fruit somewhere else or tried to put down roots in infertile soil. He’ll even walk right through the crowds around your life and public pay whatever it costs to bring you home. He doesn’t listen to their mockeries or accusations against you. His whole attention is about bringing you home and giving you a fresh start today as you walk His path. Your healing is your healing. Someone else’s healing is their healing. But the Healer and Redeemer are the Same. He knows exactly where to find the wayward and exactly how to help you live deep-rooted in His love and you head homeward. What about today…? It only takes a moment …

“If you want to live well, make sure you understand all of this. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll learn this inside and out. God’s paths get you where you want to go. Right-living people walk them easily; wrong-living people are always tripping and stumbling.” Hosea 14:9 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
