Through and Through

“Before I learned to answer you, I wandered all over the place, but now I’m in step with your Word.” Ps. 119:67 The Message

It seems so simple. All you have to do is choose: A Free Life or A Dead-End Life? But in that choice are layers of “choices” you’ve made over the years. No matter how good life becomes .. a life based upon yourself is a choice of slavery. It may not look like slavery at all. It may in fact look successful by all measurements of this world’s options of choices. Jesus describes it as a transient life .. un-free. It is in those places that you discover what is truly hidden in your heart .. hidden in your thoughts .. and hidden by your actions. Jesus describes a free life: where He has the run of the house and your freedom is “through and through”. It all seems so simple but it is anything but simple. In the midst of your choices is the call to freedom. It is a freedom you cannot ever achieve on your own. We would like to think that no one willingly chooses a life of sin .. but that is exactly what each of us chooses apart from Christ. We don’t call it sin. We call it self-determination .. self-sufficiency .. or self development. It just keeps us the same as everyone around us. And this is where Jesus meets us time after time with a question that lingers in the deepest places of our lives. “Are you truly free?” “Come .. Follow Me”! The amazing thing about Jesus is how often He asks the question. You’ll hear it in the beginning and along the way. You’ll hear it in insignificant moments. You’ll hear it over a series of days .. weeks .. months .. and years. He keeps asking .. offering .. and inviting you into a life you’ve never known and can only know in Him. It seems so simple. And it only takes a moment …

“Jesus said, “I tell you most solemnly that anyone who chooses a life of sin is trapped in a dead-end life and is, in fact, a slave. A slave is a transient, who can’t come and go at will. The Son, though, has an established position, the run of the house. So if the Son sets you free, you are free through and through.” John 8:34-36 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
