It’s God .. and It’s Always and Only going to be God!

July 8, 2011

“I was as far down as a body can go, and the gates were slamming shut behind me forever — Yet you pulled me up from that grave alive, O God, my God! When my life was slipping away, I remembered God, And my prayer got through to you, made it all the way to your Holy Temple.” Jonah 2:5-8 The Message

This is You. “No it isn’t.” Yes it is! “I wouldn’t do this or say those things to God!” Yes .. you would .. probably have .. and may again. This is the God who who followed you on the run .. found you hidden away .. and saves you when you’ve given up on yourself or maybe others have thrown you overboard as well. You probably don’t see yourself as a runner .. at least as someone who would run from God. But without His grace .. His indefatigable pursuit of us .. His unexplainable love that never gives up on us .. and His Cross-conquering-grave-rising-life-changing love we would simply drown or remain on the run lost .. scared .. and angry. But this God .. this Always and Only God .. calls us to live a life that can be placed in the most ill-conceived situations with only His name and Spirit to lead us. He doesn’t guarantee success. He promises His faithfulness. He’s a God that will chase you all around the world just so you can know that He’s the God who’s “ready at the drop of a hat to turn His plans of punishment into a program of forgiveness.” He’ll waste good resources on you just because He loves you so much and wants you to be free to walk into your “Nineveh or Ninevehs” with an indwelling graciousness that You are God’s redemptive representative .. simply sharing the same grave rescuing riches that He shared with you. You don’t know what your day will hold .. what may surface from your past .. or where the Lord may lead you today. But you can take a moment to be renewed in the Always and Only One whose grace for you is so great that you may reach out to another running heart today or extend forgiveness to someone who has no idea how to live. It only takes a moment …

“Jonah was furious. He lost his temper. He yelled at Go, “God, I knew it — when I was back home, I knew this was going to happen! That’s why I ran off to Tarshish! I knew you were sheer grace and mercy, not easily angered, rich in love, and ready at the drop of a hat to turn your plans of punishment into a program of forgiveness.” Jonah 4:1-2 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
