“Shuns” of Light

August 2, 2011

“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.” Ephesians 1:7 New American Standard

Redemp-tion .. Justifica-tion .. Propitia-tion .. Reconcilia-tion: All four of these words are found in your life in Christ. They aren’t words that you feel all the time. In fact, sometimes you find yourself drifting from the Anchoring One underneath these words. These aren’t even the most important words but they are vital for your health and wholeness in Christ. Your life is anchored in this simple indefatigable stronghold: God loves you. It’s so simple that we take it for granted regularly and even treat Jesus as if He’s not the most important fact of our lives. The world you live in tries everyday to get you to lean upon yourself or lean away from Jesus. “They” want you to think that the riches of His grace is a reward for hard work and exceptional effort. As one of God’s Salvation Army Lifers writes: “With God, it isn’t who you were that matters; it’s who you are becoming.” And who you are becoming is being built on those four words today. God paid full price for you when you were bankrupt. He settled the score of what you owed and could never pay. He exchanged the furnace of His anger for an incomparable celebration of forgiveness. And He found you orphaned and alone and restored you as His daughter and son … all through Jesus. Every one of us faces personally unique struggles and challenges. Some of them originated in family backgrounds .. some through choices .. some through seemingly unrelated circumstances .. and some through just living in a fallen world. You may not even think of one of these four words supporting your life today. That’s okay. God thought about it for you and His arms are wide open .. His grace is abundant .. and His Holy Spirit has come to make His life real inside of you. Whatever you are facing today … God is bigger and His grace and truth are mightier than anything that would seek to rob you or rob your family of His love for you. It only takes a moment …

“and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. … In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for ours sins.” 1 John 2:2/4:10 New American Standard

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
