The Economy of Sweat and Last Minute Deals …

August 4, 2011

“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius for the day, he sent them into his vineyard. ..And he went out about the third hour(9am) .. Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour(12 and 3). .. And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing around; and he asked them, “Why have you been standing here idle all day long?” … “Because no one hired us.” .. “You go into the vineyard too.” Matt. 20:1-16 New American Standard

Jesus has a way of igniting “our” ideas of how “we” think God should act and respond to others. And He has a way of turning all of “our” ideas upside down until we are a tangled mess. Jesus said to “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness” … and all of your essentials will be provided. (That varies in cultures and customs .. but the Lord knows exactly how this applies to you) When you placed your life in Christ’s life “this” world that you’ve grown up in .. been educated in .. become accustomed to .. and carry around inner expectations about how life should work out … WELL … all of that and more was “crucified” on the same Cross where a man exchanged all of his crimes for a crimes-free future. And you also surrendered all of the false assumptions of making life work in this world for an empty-grave-promise that Life only works through a barn born messiah named Jesus. His grace-sweat economy is not based on your hours or your self-assumed worth. And that’s just a start. You also don’t have to face the end of your life wondering if some “crime” of your past will surface to disqualify you from being “remembered” by that Middle Criminal on Calvary. As one Christ follower said: He did come to steal the hearts of the hungry .. hopeless .. harassed .. and hurting who longed for what they could never attain on their own. Does Jesus still make last-minute deals? Every day! He still makes last-minute deals .. last hour deals .. last moments deals .. last anything deals when it means you letting go of your grip on this world and opening your heart to the One who wants to rule your heart with grace .. not guilt. You’ll come face to face with parts of you that you don’t like and can’t believe that Jesus accepts you with all of your inequities. He does. He’s there at the beginning of the day .. during the day .. and even the last hour of the day. And He’s not going to throw you away when you stumble and sometimes stumble badly. It only takes a moment …

“Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you enter your kingdom!” “He said, “Don’t worry, I will. Today you will join me in paradise.” Luke 23:42-43 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
