All in and All out …?

August 12, 2011

“O Israel, come back! Return to your God! You’re down but you’re not out. … Receive as restitution our repentant prayers. Assyria won’t save us; horses won’t get us where we want to go. We’ll never again say ‘our god’ to something we’ve made or made up. You’re our last hope. Is it not true that in you the orphan finds mercy?” Hosea 14:1-3 The Message

Hosea was a man with a broken marriage and God called him to “Call” His people back from all their unfaithfulness. Can you imagine for one moment how hard it must have been to know that you are God’s appointed message carrier and your heart is broken into a million pieces because your wife doesn’t want you. It’s not a one-sided story. In the midst of great brokenness .. great loss .. and great seemingly “un-fixable” problems is the redeeming grace of God who uses the parts of your life for His message. He doesn’t call perfect people. He calls men and women like Hosea .. like you .. to walk in His faithfulness. You can’t clean it up in your own life. In one moment .. 2000 years ago Jesus cleaned up your life inside and out. It might not feel like it .. but He did. The same dead-end efforts exist today that existed when Jesus offered his unblemished life for you. Hosea probably didn’t feel like walking through town to look for his wife and then buy her back .. but he did because his broken heart was beating with the redeeming life of God’s love for His people. (It must have been embarrassing to be one of God’s prophets while his personal life was in shambles. His whole life was known around town and at the same time he was calling unfaithful men and women back to Yahweh … the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.) We are often blinded by the outside packaging of others lives and completely miss God’s redeeming-inside-restorations unfolding in front of our lives. And more often than not “we” are those very restorations of grace whose lives are being made whole inside and out. God knows all to well that we will exhaust ourselves with made up hope before turning to our last and only hope in Christ. And how He loves to welcome orphans home where we belong. All of who Jesus Christ is is available to you today. And all of who He is is all that He has to give to you today. Come on back … it only takes a moment …

” … think how much more the blood of Christ cleans up our whole lives, inside and out. Through the Spirit, Christ offered himself as an unblemished sacrifice, freeing us from all those dead-end efforts to make ourselves respectable, so that we can live all out for God.” Hebrews 9:14-15 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
