God’s Unlikely First Choices …

August 22, 2011

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life — your sleeping. eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life — and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.” Romans 12:1 The Message

Who would ever dream or think that God would use the “unlikely .. broken .. flawed” people in everyday life to reveal His faithfulness .. His redeeming love .. and His resurrection power to make all things new? That means you’ve taken your broken and healed .. trusting and doubting .. self-surrender and self-serving life and placed it before God as an offering. That means you’ve given it to the Lord. It doesn’t belong to you anymore. That means you’ve faced some of those unlikely things .. unlovely things .. and unnoticed things in yourself and offered them to Jesus for His purposes. It’s those very places you’ve given up on. It’s those very places you’ve wondered if God even pays attention or could do anything different in you. He can! He changes you from the inside out. God’s “well-formed maturity” is shaped out of all of those immature places in you where you’ve failed and tried to fix on your own. It begins with your everyday life. You’ll find Jesus walking alongside and working alongside those ordinary parts of your life. But sometimes it means you offering up all those same places that have kept you from fixing your whole-hearted attention on Christ. There are all kinds of distractions and culture seducing themes that will try to pull you away today. It only takes a moment .. a moment to “fix your attention on God” .. a moment to place it “All” before Him. What is amazing is how the Lord uses it all. Some if it fades away. Some of it finds itself turned inside out because of God’s love. Some of it looks just like the scars on His hands and feet. If you’ve ever wondered if God could use your life today? Offer it to Him … it only takes a moment …

“Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings out the best in you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” Romans 12:2 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
