“Not only that — count yourselves blessed every time people put you down or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and they are uncomfortable.” Matt. 5:11 The Message

“Many people know this word: Revenge. It is a word that we use every day. It often wears disguises. Whether somebody jokes about you, laughs at you or even mocks you. We ALWAYS have to get revenge. That is just our unmerciful .. sin-filled .. sin-stained nature. God says to count yourself “blessed” when you find yourself in these very moments. You see and hear the word “blessed” a lot in the Bible, that is because that is what God does. He blesses every body and every thing. How could He love a murderer? How can He love so many people who put others down .. throw others out .. and use false words to try to destroy others. Maybe He does it because He’s perfect .. or he just has a loving heart .. or even that He sees everything in the Light of who He is. He not only blesses .. He rescues. He is the Rescuer of a world of sinners. It doesn’t matter if you are Number One on the list or so far down you think your life really doesn’t matter. What are you going to stand on today. Yourself..? OR .. the endless patience of Jesus to those (just like you) who often find themselves “right on the edge” of trust or self-inflicted terror. Jesus came into the world .. your world .. to save sinners .. even the worst ones. And in those quiet graced-formed moments you realize that you are one of the worst. God’s blessing was his ONLY son for OUR sins. Because we are all sinners .. God has always tried to save us from sins. He’s not after revenge. He never mocks you. He doesn’t joke about you or laugh at you. Instead .. Jesus took all of our sin and pain. So .. you can laugh when others mock you .. laugh at you .. and try to put you down. You can laugh because you know that Jesus has been in the very spot you are in … and that was because He wanted to rescue you from drowning.” Drowning doesn’t happen in just water. You can drown in grief .. rejection .. boredom .. and just floundering inside your own world. Grace turns revenge into reverse … sheer-mercyed evidence of His endless patience. It only takes a moment

“Here’s a word you can take to heart and depend on: Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. I’m proof– Public Sinner Number One — of someone who could never have made it apart from sheer mercy. And now he shows me off — evidence of his endless patience — to those who are right on the edge of trusting him forever.” 1 Timothy 1:15 The Message

Ken Chester and Carter Mann: Grace-Gripped is written M-F to Adopted Revengers following Jesus and friends of Priority One (ken@priorityone.org) Thank you Carter … I heard the heart of God pouring out of your words. I’m thankful that the 44 years between us was all the space God needed.)

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
