Playing in mud puddles …

September 29, 2011

“God rescued us from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He’s set us up in the kingdom of the Son he loves so much, the Son who got us out of the pit we were in, got rid of the sins we were doomed to keep repeating.” Colossians 1:13-14 The Message

God can’t help himself. He sees our lives .. your life .. stuck in mud. Except .. we don’t call it mud and we don’t like to admit that we were born stuck or inclined to get stuck. He’s a rescuing God. Instead of just giving us a hand up .. The Son walked right into your mud-pit and got you out. And when you looked back you saw that the Son stayed stuck in your mud-pit so you could be freed from living a mud-stuck .. sin-addicted .. and sin-inflicting life. God couldn’t help himself because his love only knows generosity when it comes to getting you out of your mess and restored into the life He’s always wanted for you. It only stands to reason that your life should reflect that generosity everyday. Every life in Christ discovers just how spacious and roomy Jesus makes His life for broken and dislocated people. (Col. 1:15-20) He can’t help himself. Some people go out of their way to find mud puddles to jump in. Others find mud puddles splashing on their carefully arranged lives and blame anyone but themselves. We only find true freedom when we finally admit to ourselves and to God that we’re stuck and can’t get out of ourselves or the mud pits we decorate and accessorize to try to make life manageable. We can’t even wash all the mud stains off .. no matter how hard we try. But God can .. He can’t help himself when it comes to cleaning up your life. It has been his plan from the very beginning with His Son. You’re going to go out into a mud puddle world today. You’ll probably be splashed when you least expect it. And you may surprise yourself when pressures or temptations cause you to jump in your own mud pit. But .. you don’t have to stay stuck or tell yourself that this is where you belong. This Son, Jesus has lifted your life out of “dead-end alleys and dark dungeons”. He knows your habits .. addictions .. and false attractions that try to substitute the generous love of God for an instant love of yourself. They never work. They just leave you miserably muddy. When it comes to your life Jesus can’t help himself. Don’t try to go it on your own. It only takes a moment …

“Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ.” Romans 3:24 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
