Making room …

October 3, 2011

“Let the Word of Christ — the Message — have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives…. ” Colossians 3:16 The Message

Not many people .. men or women .. read the Bible anymore. A lot of people own Bibles and even underline favorite passages or meaningful moments .. but .. reading the Bible regularly? Reading the Bible doesn’t make you a more spiritual person. It doesn’t simplify your life. It should do all those things and more .. but the Bible is not a magic book or narrow lined formula for living your life. What it should do is expand your heart as you see the incredible lengths that God goes to redeem .. reclaim .. and restore men and women who’ve wandered off. What it should do is open your mind to the un-fixable lengths that men and women will go to try to fix this world without God. What it should do is create in you a heart that is indefatigably loved by God and in turn spills over into all the relationships in your life. God didn’t give us His Word to remind us of all of our daily shortcomings or cause us to live in constant guilt. You find out who you really are when you belong to Jesus and what happens when you give Him the “run of the house”. You discover how alive God’s grace makes you everyday. Not everyone is called to face down angry God-mobs everyday. But all of us step out into a world that is starving for: a word of kindness .. a Spirit-filled act of grace .. and the nail-scarred truths that God is good — the Gospel is real — and His grace is life-changing. You can begin by letting this same Word of Christ have the run of your house today. He’ll go room by room .. taking all the time He needs to love you into wholeness and renovate your life with grace and peace. Some rooms need much more care than others. Jesus knows a thing or two about carpentry .. restoration .. and resurrection. In Him all things become new. You can trust that God wants your life to have plenty of room for His life. You may discover a “grace and energy” you’ve never known. And it only takes a moment …

“The Word of God prospered. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased dramatically. Not least, a great many priests submitted themselves to the faith.” … Stephen, brimming with God’s grace and energy, was doing wonderful things among the people, unmistakable signs that God was among them.” Acts 6:7-8 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
