Jesus said …

“You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.” Matt. 5:3 The Message

Only Jesus can tell you “you’re blessed” at ends of your life because He knows firsthand what the end of your rope looks like and feels like. He walked with end-of-ropers and even called a group of men to become end-of-ropers. And then He “became” the end of your rope. So .. He knows how difficult it is for you to hear that you are blessed when the pressures are mounting and your resources are draining you. Where else are you going to turn. The world you live in offers “formulas” and strategies for conquering life and ending on top immune or protected from such pain and brokenness. Jesus describes that as a “shortcut” .. a life .. a self-deceiving delusion to escape living in a fallen world. Everyone on this side of life has end of rope moments. Some last longer than others. But everyone has them. What you discover is that in those moments you are wide open to receiving God’s rule and indwelling presence to carry you and walk with you through every moment and every pain-filled step along the path. The “Way to Life” .. Jesus .. is the One who has promised to meet you in your darkest moments .. in your surrender .. and in your end-of-yourself circumstances and help you discover the “in-to-Him” life that He offers to you today. This same Jesus even knows you may try to take a shortcut. But that isn’t going to stop Him from meeting you right where you are and inviting you to trust Him to lead you into all that He is. He knows what the true end-of-your-rope really looks like. It’s at that very end that you discover just how true His grip of grace is for your life. It only takes a moment to let go of the rope and be gripped in Christ …

“Don’t look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easy-going formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don’t fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. The way to life — to God! — is vigorous and requires total attention.” Matt. 7:13-14 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
