The Gospel and Joe

October 20, 2011

“To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:27 King James Version

He walked down the aisle at a Baptist revival and surrendered his life to Jesus at 17. The Gospel had found a home in this mountain formed life. He was like you and me. The Gospel of Jesus had a home but the grace of Jesus was still shaping the life of Jesus in him. He was mountain formed but changed by the One who formed the mountains. He was just like you … Learning to live the secret of Christ living in him. He loved to grow things .. Whether it was daughters, grandchildren, flowers, vegetables, Christmas trees, … Joe loved to watch things grow. Everything that He had was available to give away. That’s the life Jesus lives in a man or woman … freely giving away what is priceless .. timeless .. and growing alive in the love of God. If you were in a ditch .. he would take the time .. because it was what Jesus would do. You were always welcome in his home. Once you were inside .. you were part of the family. That’s what the Gospel does: it turns orphans into adopted sons and daughters. You’re home .. and there’s still room to bring a few others along. You’re in Christ but not “fully with” Him yet. He was just like you … all the places of your life have to be formed into something unblameable in Christ. And just like Joe .. It only takes a moment …

“And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in His sight.” Colossians 1:22-23 King James Version

Ken Chester: Grace-Gripped is sent M-F to “Joe Ledfords” surrendered to Jesus and friends of Priority One ( …. Joe Ledford was 93 when he reached up from his bed to take hold of the everlasting life that was his in Christ. See you soon Joe …

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
