Crooked Tree Climbing Disciples …

October 31, 2011

“When Jesus got to the tree, he looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, hurry down. Today is my day to be a guest in your home.” Zacchaeus scrambled out of the tree, hardly believing his good luck, delighted to take Jesus home with him. Everyone who saw the incident was indignant and grumped, “What business does he have getting cozy with this crook?” Luke 19:5-7 The Message

God choses all kinds. Our resumes and reputations don’t seem to cause Jesus to second-guess or reconsider. He doesn’t seem to worry about what others will say about Him when He invites you to share a meal together. It must make Him smile when He sees the efforts we make to get a glimpse of Him or try to get His attention. But He does something beyond your wildest dreams … He chooses you. You … not because of what’ve you’ve done or haven’t done. He’s chosen you to tell others of the “night-and-day difference he made for you”. You don’t have to climb trees or make promises. What Jesus does in your life is completely change you inside out. He turns all the “nothing” places inside of you into “something” that points to Him. He steps into every “rejected” place in your heart and life and transforms you into someone who is loved and lives as one “accepted”. You’ll want to climb trees and tell the world. He knows that too! But He’s called you into a life that changes everything about who you are and how you live. Maybe you will climb a tree or give away more than you ever dreamed. It won’t be because you “have to” but because Christ has moved into your life. It happens in a moment .. maybe a moment you’ve planned .. but always in a moment the God has planned. And the life that Christ lives in you is more than just being a “guest”. God wants your life to be an instrument of His grace. How are you going to live today? It only takes a moment …

“But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you — nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.” 1 Peter 2:9-10 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
