The Fixed Life

November 2, 2011

“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2 New American Standard

Your life in Christ is connected to other lives connected to other lives connected to other lives connected all the way back to the time when Jesus walked with His followers. It’s easy to feel dis-connected in the world you live in. Where will you “fix” your hope today … even when you don’t feel much hope? We’re reminded to “fix’ our eyes on Jesus. It’s easy to be distracted today. It takes a determined moment to “fix” your eyes on Jesus for today. It’s just as easy to run on yesterday’s spent fuel or simply nod in His direction rather than take the time to clear away the clutter and “fix” your eyes on Jesus. And when you look at Jesus you are setting the course of your heart. You can almost guarantee that you will face undefined assaults on where you are fixing your eyes. You’ll be assaulted to fix your hope on your own efforts today rather than in the grace that is yours in Christ. You’ll find your life drained .. empty .. and encumbered when your eyes are not freshly “fixed” on Christ. You can even live that way for a long time but it will not be satisfying. Fixing your eyes on Christ today is all about learning to love the life that Christ is living in me … and not living my life in my way and asking God to bless it. Fixing your eyes on Christ is all about living in a fallen world and trusting Jesus in the most complex situations and keeping your eyes on Him even when your life is run-down .. run-over .. or running in the right direction. It takes all of Christ-n-you to live the Christ-filled life. And still it only takes a moment …

“Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:13 New American Standard

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
