Grace-filled Patience …

November 3, 2011

“God put the world square with himself through the Messiah, giving the world a fresh start by offering forgiveness of sins. God has given us the task of telling everyone what he is doing. We’re Christ’s representatives. God uses us to persuade men and women to drop their differences and enter into God’s work of making things right between them.” 2 Cor. 5:19-20 The Message

You really have been given a “job” that transcends every job description on earth. You are one of Christ’s representatives .. an Ambassador .. authorized to speak and serve in the world you live in. You know you didn’t earn this position. You trusted what God has done for you: a fresh start .. forgiveness .. and a setting-things-right faith. You are Christ’s representative. Think about that: others see and hear what Jesus is like through your life and words. Yes ..You don’t always live up to the title .. You don’t always say the right things and sometimes the wrong things come out. Sometimes your own life will feel out of joint and out of patience. But .. You are His representative of grace .. a fresh start .. and a clean slate. And you can be sure of this: there are men and women in your world desperately wanting to know this “word of faith” that you heard and trusted God to do in you. On almost every front there are men and women who refuse to drop their differences .. relationships .. marriages .. and friendships. Jesus said the “fields” were ripe for harvest. We don’t think that way but Jesus does. He sees the farmland of our hearts: drought-stricken .. neglected .. overgrown .. and longing for a new life. And you are to be His representative. You are His ambassador because Jesus has done this work in your heart and life. Sometimes the hardest part is just taking the next step and saying it out loud. Maybe it opens a door or makes you approachable. Maybe it just lets others see you as just like “them” .. someone who has been at the same place and began a new direction because God was grace-filled towards you. You’ll be on the job today … it only takes a moment …

“It’s the word of faith that welcomes God to go to work and set things right for us. … You’re not “doing” anything: you’re simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That’s salvation. With your whole being you embrace God setting things right and then you say it, right out loud: “God has set everything right between him and me!” Romans 10:8..9..10 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
