What are you expecting …?

November 9, 2011

“Are you the One we’ve been expecting, or are we still waiting?” Jesus told them. “Go back and tell John what’s going on: The blind see, The lame walk, Lepers are cleansed, The deaf hear, The dead are raised, The wretched of the earth learn that God is on their side. Is this what you were expecting? Then count yourselves most blessed.” Matt. 11:3-6 The Message

We try to make life work .. to work on our terms .. and to work out of our self-centered expectations. That’s the world that Jesus stepped into and began demolishing the all lies that God was not on our side. He is. He’s on your side today: the “side” of you that Jesus opened your eyes .. given you grace to walk .. cleansed your sin-infected wounds .. opened your ears to hear .. and raised you to new life when you were dead without Him. And yet .. there are moments when you stumble inwardly (and maybe outwardly at times) and wonder if God is on your side? So … He told an old prophet named Isaiah about a Road that is reserved for men and women just like you. You’ll sing and glow and every sorrow and sigh that has worn you down and worn you out will vanish. God’s not expecting you to find this road on your own. The truth is you can’t. There are just too many “broken and dislocated” pieces of your life scattered over years. But this same Jesus who gently and firmly reminds his cousin of Who He is … is the same One you’ve been expecting. Sometimes we’re afraid to even ask such a question because we fear God will just shake His head and walk off and leave us alone. Jesus intimately knows how hard it is to live in this “blind-lame-leperfilled-deaf-dead-wretched” world. He’s not walking away. He’s still in the business of healing .. helping .. and welcoming home lives just like yours. There is a Jesus Way for your life. And it only takes a moment …

“There will be a highway called the Holy Road. … The people God has ransomed will come back on this road. They’ll sing as they make their way home to Zion, unfading halos of joy encircling their heads, Welcomed home with gifts of joy and gladness as all sorrows and sighs scurry into the night.” Is. 35:8,10 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
