What do they see …?

November 10, 2011

“This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples — when they see the love you have for one each other.” John 13:35 The Message

Jesus described what life with Him looks like in our everyday lives. People .. your own family .. your friends and neighbors .. and your work associates will recognize that you are a follower of Jesus by the way you love other followers of Jesus. It seems so simple and yet we quickly discover that the Love that Jesus is talking about is absolutely impossible without His indwelling life. That Love shows up in so many forms: caring for one another .. encouraging one another .. serving one another .. sacrificing for one another .. forgiving one another .. laughing with one another .. crying with one another .. suffering with one another .. rejoicing with one another .. walking by faith in Christ with one another. The effect of all of this and more is that these same people will clearly see the “strong family likeness to Jesus and the freedom you share from everything unlike Him” (OC). Jesus not only described your life’s daily mission .. He also asked the Father to share the same life He had with Him .. with you .. and with us. This is the true life you’ve been called to live everyday. It is the grace-filled life you’ve been called to live. And Jesus didn’t call you to live this kind of life in your own strength or out of your own good intentions. He loved you when you thought there was no way God would love you or accept you. The Cross marks that place in your life where you know that the love of God is not only real but life-changing. You’re identified with Jesus and the life He lives in you literally transforms the way you love. And Jesus said you’ll be recognized as one of His disciples. And when that love runs dry maybe it’s time to be re-filled. It only takes a moment …

“The goal is for all of them to become one heart and mind — Just as you, Father, are in me and I in you, So they might be one heart and mind with us. Then the world might believe that you, in fact, sent me.” John 17:21 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
