In Him …

November 21, 2011

“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace. … It is through the Son, at the cost of his own blood, that we are redeemed, freely forgiven through that full and generous grace which has overflowed into our lives and opened our eyes to the truth.” Ephesians 1:7 NIV & JB Phillips Translations

When your life is connected with Jesus everything about you is found “in him”. His life redeems you .. not just an eternal destination but even more so “today definition” of your life. It’s not something hidden away or secretly admired. Your blood work is now typed with Christ’s blood. His life is to define who you are and how you live. That’s where the tensions usually surface. On one hand you were at a point where nothing mattered and Jesus was nailed into your life and it all changed. Maybe it didn’t change over night .. but your life will never be the same when Christ’s grace has overwhelmed you .. overrun you .. overcome all the barriers and broken places inside of you. “Freely forgiven” is for now living and not just for later celebrating. It affects everything you do and everyone you care for .. from your spouse .. your work .. and your friends. We too often try to convince God to bless our old ways and become frustrated or try harder when He doesn’t. God blesses the life of His Son living in you. And if that isn’t your true reality today you are going to wind up frustrated .. impatient .. and sweetly irritable at best. But all that self-imposed pressure comes off when you know that who your life is and what you are to be doing is directly tied to who Christ is in your life. At first that can be one of guilt or lingering shame. But it leaves in an instant when you trust in His work in your life. God doesn’t just give you enough grace to handle today. He pours generously into all of the cracked .. tired .. and self-inflated areas of your heart so that you can begin to live and learn (maybe for the first time) to love the Life that Christ is living in you. He’s had His eye on you for some time … and it only takes a moment …

“It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he has his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.” Ephesians 1:11-12 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
