Ancient Promises and Painful Disruptions

December 8, 2011

“For the arms of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord sustains the righteous. The Lord knows the days of the blameless, and their inheritance will be forever. They will not be ashamed in the time of evil, and in the days of famine they will have abundance.” Ps. 37:17-19 New American Standard

You are promised over. God made those promises and has kept them until this moment and will keep them until He returns. The wicked? They are all around you .. and in this world. But no matter what “finds” you today … God’s promise over your life .. in your life .. and for your life cannot be defeated. As one Christ-follower has said: “You live in the ancient future”. Amos steered sheep but spoke of painful disruptions in Israel’s life because they chased after the impotent promises of false gods and impotent selves. Jesus called the “Those-Who-Should-Have-Known” …”Hopeless Frauds” because they pretended on the outside of their lives when their insides were diseased and bankrupt. And He .. this Jesus .. is the One we “advent” in preparation. We wait .. sometimes patiently and at peace and sometimes impatiently and anxious. But He has come as the One who inhabited our sin-scarred .. life-wearied .. hope-filled disruptions and we pause to remind ourselves and be reminded that the Conquering One is bringing your secret name .. known only to Him .. and spoken into every corner of your forever life. And in the face of wickedness the Lord stands before you and will never abandon you .. give up on you .. or let go of you. The manger announced his battle plan. And while we wait in this time … are your ears awake? It only takes a moment …

“Are your ears awake? … Christ-conquerors are safe from Devil-death. Are your ears awake? .. I’ll give the sacred manna to every conqueror; I’ll also give a clear smooth stone inscribed with your new name, your secret new name.” Rev. 2:11/17 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
