Heartbreaking Disruption

December 9, 2011

“The Spirit of God, the Master, is on me because God anointed me. He sent me to preach good news to the poor, heal the heartbroken, announce freedom to all captives, pardon all prisoners. God sent me to announce the year of his grace –” Isaiah 61:1-2 The Message … “I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and in justice’ in loving-kindness and in compassion’ And I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness. Then you will know the Lord,” Hosea 2:19-20 New American Standard

Everything that God does in this world intersects .. interrupts .. and interprets a world living in disruption. Everything! You may even find yourself trying to make life work on your terms and hoping that God will bless it with His terms. Isaiah stepped into a world of captivity and idolatry. One world had lost all freedoms and the other world was trying to make their own freedom whatever the expense. What we discover time and time again is that God shows up with a love so unexpected … a love that suffers for us at the very places where we are heartbroken .. imprisoned .. blind .. battered .. and worn out (burdened beyond our strength to endure). This is the disrupted and disrupting world you live in. We want safety .. even demand it .. but soon discover that “I’m” not safe from myself. Jesus didn’t come to make your life safe. He announced God’s grace had arrived and was inhabiting every facet of your life. Jesus breaks down every wall of self-protection and it is often accompanied with inconceivable disruption. He knows that if we knew what was behind His grace we would try to settle for something just a little less than “all” that He offers. Good news!! .. Hearts-healed!! .. Freedom!! .. Pardon!! .. A fresh start!! .. A clean slate .. Forgiveness!!!!!. That would be enough by anyone’s design but God promises Himself to you: in righteousness and justice .. in loving-kindness and compassion and faithfulness. THEN .. He says you will know Him. Disruption? Everywhere. And with Jesus it becomes Good News because He has come for you. And for you….? He has all the moments you need over and over …

“God’s Spirit is on me; he’s chosen me to preach the Message of good news to the poor, Sent me to announce pardon to prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, To set the burdened and battered free, to announce, “This is God’s year to act!” ” Luke 4:18-19 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
