Encountering Jesus

December 13, 2011

“Shout and celebrate, Daughter of Zion! I’m on my way. I’m moving into your neighborhood. God’s Decree.” Zech. 2:10 The Message

Jesus arrives on time. There are indeed times .. moments really .. when it feels like God has abandoned you .. given up .. or just doesn’t seem to feel the intensity of your need .. your anxiety .. and your desperation. Our sense of time is so trapped inside our sin colored worlds. But Jesus showed up right on time .. a true barn raising befitting a King. There is a moment of angels .. stars aligned .. a few gift givers .. and some ill-fitted but barn comfortable shepherds. And the neighborhood He’s moved into is your life. He’s going room by room patiently setting your life in order. We imagine it only takes an instant word or touch but the Lord knows how fragile all of our lives really are in this fallen world. It might not be your world ..but it could be someone’s world directly connected to you in such a way that you hear Him knocking on the door of your heart. No one is the same who encounters Jesus. You don’t walk away from Jesus feeling unwanted or unworthy. You walk away wanting to become whole in the life that He offers you. Yes .. sometimes there are hard words that knock down long neglected walls and immovable attitudes. But He does it with all the grace that He is. Can you imagine Jesus showing up unannounced and wanting to have supper with you? He’s not looking at how you decorated or if everything is in its place. He’s there for you and all that other stuff in your life doesn’t distract Him one bit. He’s not waiting for you to put your house in order. He is the barn-birthed Order for your life. He becomes your indwelling Help .. your right-on-time Hope .. and your Home where you were born to live. And don’t worry .. His life becomes the best meal you’ve ever had. It only takes a moment …

“Look at me. I stand at the door. I knock. If you hear me call and open the door, I’ll come right in and sit down to supper with you.” Rev. 3:20 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
