Holy, Holy, Holy Disruption

December 14, 2011

“Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, WHO WAS and WHO IS and WHO IS TO COME.” Rev. 4:8 New American Standard

When an unnoticed barn became a labor room a group of shepherds found their regular nightly duties holy disrupted. It must have been something for a few shepherds to leave their sheep .. their livelihood and follow such a disruption. Sometimes that is exactly what God’s Holy, Holy, Holy Disruptions do in our lives. It interrupts our schedules, calendars, and regular routines. “The life that Jesus wants to live in us is more simple, peaceful and love filled than our best efforts to create such a life. It goes against everything that we learn growing up when God disrupts our lives.” David learned over the course of his life that The Lord was his true portion .. the true substance that filled his life .. and the true source of everything good for his life. It’s always strange and unsettling when we see someone break out singing in a public place and yet that is the life that is waiting for us when the WHO IS TO COME returns. You can look back at the God WHO WAS. He intervenes over and over and calls us to return to Him even before we afflict ourselves. And the God WHO IS … He is here today .. in your life .. in every corner of your life .. in every situation .. in every fear and longing .. in anxious moments and in grace filled moments .. holding out nail-scarred hands for all of your brokenness and all of your careful planning. Holy, Holy, Holy … You might find yourself singing and disrupting the world around you! It only takes a moment …

“The Lord is my portion; I have promised to keep Your words. .. Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your word” Ps. 119:57/67 New American Standard

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
