Living a basic life … and loving it!

January 4, 2012

“Going through a long line of prophets, God has been addressing our ancestors in different ways for centuries. Recently he spoke to us directly through his Son. By his Son, God created the world in the beginning, and it will all belong to the Son at the end. This Son perfectly mirrors God, and is stamped with God’s nature. He holds everything together by what he says — powerful words!” Hebrews 1:1-3 The Message

All that God wants from you is everything. He could demand it and you would give it begrudgingly but not whole-heartedly. He could force you and you would give it reluctantly. He could just take it from you and you would surrender broken-heartedly. But instead .. God asks you if you want a new life through His Son. He doesn’t make you believe Jesus. He doesn’t force you to accept His Son. He doesn’t take away anything you refuse to let go of or release your grip. And amazingly .. God doesn’t walk away when you’ve given up .. run aground .. or lost your way. He shows up at the most common places of your life. He speaks into your heart when you think “you’ve” been forgotten .. or failed beyond help. All He wants is everything and Everything is All that He has to give you. God’s greatest best for your life is basic: Christ .. no more.. no less. You are living in this moment of God’s time called the last days. How long? Only God knows. But He has spoken His final words in Jesus. It’s in His life that you grow into your real life. He’s never overwhelmed by the complexities of your life .. your situation .. or your circumstances. The smallest detail isn’t lost with Jesus. If you don’t know how .. He does. if you don’t know where .. He does. If you don’t know what is next .. He does. In fact .. He already knows where you don’t know what you don’t know. Jesus is God’s final Word and His First Help for everything in your life. Whatever you are facing today … it only takes a moment …

“To be mature is to be basic. Christ! No more, no less. … Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans.” Colossians 1:28 / Romans 8:26 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
