Poured in …

May 1, 2012

“… because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Romans 5:5 New American Standard

Your day begins with this truth: God’s love has been “poured out” into your life through the Holy Spirit. How you start today doesn’t change what the Lord has already done. He’s not going to change His mind or hesitate about pouring out His love in you. He saved you not on the basis of what you’ve done .. but wholly on the basis of what Christ has done for you and in you. And the image of His life in you is that of being “poured into” generously .. unmeasurable .. and extravagantly wasteful (TK). Just think for a moment how much gets “poured” into your life and into your mind everyday. The world you live in relentlessly whispers that you’ll become a more acceptable and well-rounded man or woman if you simply mix all of this world’s offerings together. It’s not true. You’ll discover exactly the opposite. You’ll become less on the inside. What God has poured and is pouring into you will yield a life that finds rest and renewal in the things that are “true–honorable–right–pure–lovely–admirable–excellent–and worthy of praise”. He’s not pouring a list of rules into your life. He’s pouring His love into you because this is the deepest need in your life. The love of God in Christ .. indwelling .. filling .. and abiding in you is priceless. His life is the gift you cannot repay. And He’s poured out His love through the Holy Spirit because He knows you’ll run aground from time to time and forget. He knows you’ll stumble or reach for some other source of strength and feel ashamed. He knows you’ll wrestle with letting Christ have sovereignty over all of your life … every item .. every dollar .. everything. And knowing all of that about you … God continues to pour out His love to you. He’s not a wasteful God. He’s just a God who loves to fill up the wastelands of your heart with His Spirit and watch you come to life. You’ll find yourself realigning how you think and discover that underneath it all is His peace guarding your heart and mind in Christ. And it only takes a moment …

“And now dear brother and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me — everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:8-9 New Living Translation

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
