Having it all together …

May 2, 2012

“He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment.” Colossians 1:17 The Message

Jesus is holding you together. That seems too simple. In fact .. it may feel offensive to some because you might not feel all together. But God doesn’t lie. He hasn’t wasted or overlooked any situation or circumstance. He’s not keeping score of your perfect performances or admiring how well you have managed your life. He’s far too busy shaping your life with His Son and His Spirit. You’re that valuable to Him. You’re His ambassador .. a messenger of grace .. and a living example of His redeeming work. You may wonder why the Lord seems so slow at times. He describes Himself as being “slow to anger” or “steadfast in His love” or “patient”. He is all of that because everything about your life has been reconciled to God through Christ. And when God says everything .. He means every second .. every thought .. every action .. every inaction .. every failure .. every success .. everything that has gone into the shaping of your life. Where you see flaws .. the Lord sees his finished work. When you think you have it all together .. the Lord must smile and grip you with more grace if that were possible! When you think that you’re worthless .. He holds you in the palm of his hand and pours out His love through His Spirit. It doesn’t matter to Him how long it takes for that love to saturate the broken and barren places of our lives. There isn’t an outpost in your heart beyond His reach. At this very moment you’re being held together by the One who created the heavens and the earth. He has the scars to prove it. In Him “all things” are reconciled in Him. Christ holds you together when you feel like you’re falling apart. He’s never going to let go. It only takes a moment …

“… and through Him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.” Colossians 1:20 New Living Translation

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
