“I kept my bearings in Christ …” 1 Cor. 9:21 The Message

What if Jesus invited you to spend a day or week with him .. to just follow along? By his very nature he would collect a “wide range of people: religious, nonreligious, meticulous moralists, loose-living immoralists, the defeated, the demoralized — whoever.” And all the while he’d have time for all of your questions .. frustrations .. and struggles. You would notice that everyone who was in his company was accepted and loved even if they didn’t understand it .. were suspicious .. and even outright rejected his life intersecting their life. And all the while he’d have time for you. The truth is Jesus wants to live that very kind of life through you as you go about your life. It’s always easiest to stay on one side. Crossing over into other lives is filled with all kinds of distractions and even temptations but it is where you’ll find Jesus walking in your life. He’s not trying to purposefully throw you off or make you feel unqualified. But without Him .. you’ll be overwhelmed and worn down and tempted to just stay on your side. That’s why we are encouraged .. invited and instructed to “keep our eyes on Jesus”. When we don’t we drift .. turn him into loosely-shaped good intentions or a burdensome duty. But that’s not the Jesus who invites you to spend your life following him. He’s full of life. He engages those who feel rejected .. unworthy .. and overlooked. He won’t demand because that is not his way. He’ll direct your steps and help you know His heart and will. And as you follow Him you’ll discover how much his life changes what you think you need and what you really want out of life. Whether it is a hundred choices or just a few, Jesus won’t force his life upon you. He’s already faced the Cross .. unimaginable shame .. and everything else connected to your life. You can be sure that what He began in you … He will finish. It only takes a moment …

“Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed — that exhilarating finish in and with God — he could put with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever.” Hebrews 12:2 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
