Giving the Gospel away … free

May 10, 2012

“Come, everyone who is thirsty, come to the waters; and you without money, come, buy, and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.” Isaiah 55:1 Holman Christian Standard

When the gospel opens your life and shows you all those “things” that are holding you captive and self-prisoned .. you’ll find yourself thirsty and hungry for food you never thought you could buy. But it is .. it is yours for free. You can take all you want and not feel guilty. You can buy without money. How…? Christ’s life is your currency. He paid for your meal and you can never pay him back. Besides that, he’s not asking you to repay anything. What happens is this: Your life now becomes “the gospel” for another life .. and another .. and another. As the Major likes to say: “Christ gave his life for you so that he could release his divine activity through you.” You don’t hold back a gift like this. What makes us ashamed of the gospel? It is this: The gospel is on display everyday in your life and if you aren’t living in union with Christ you’ll feel ashamed. The exact opposite is what the gospel is all about: Making you feel alive and free to give Christ to everyone you meet. The gospel that claims your life is so much more than just getting you saved. That’s the easiest part of God’s redeeming work. The gospel is about making you alive with the abiding presence of Jesus Christ. You buy by believing. You buy by receiving. You buy by trusting in His risen life today. It seems so simple and yet you can find any reason to not believe or receive or trust. You can become distracted. You can just procrastinate and say it has to wait until you’re finished with ……..? You can just fill what you want to surrender with busyness. The gospel is the “God’s power for salvation”. That must make it important for your life today .. more important than anything else. Whatever parts of your life not connected and rooted in the gospel will leave you feeling ashamed. How do you fix it? You come .. without money and buy, and buy without shame .. without regret .. without holding on. You lift up your heart and even your hands and come … He’s been there all along at the beginning and He’s there when you’ve finally reached that moment where it’s just you and Jesus. It only takes a moment …

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is God’s power for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16 Holman Christian Standard

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
