“Or do you despise the riches of His kindness, restraint, and patience, not recognizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance ” Romans 2:4 Holman Christian Standard

Repentance is a word that reminds you that you are or have been going in the wrong direction. It could be in your mind or in your footsteps. It’s a word that reminds you that you need to change .. but you know deep down that you are powerless to really change what needs changing. God leads you to repentance because He doesn’t want you to become stuck in yourself. He could preach at you .. yell at you .. make lots of noise and threats .. but He doesn’t. In spite of all that you do to turn away or try to take control the Lord pours out His kindness to lead you back to Himself. It doesn’t always look that way on the surface but it is His kindness. As an old Montana pastor wrote: “Repentance .. is deciding that you have been wrong in supposing that you could manage your own life and be your own god; it is deciding that you were wrong in thinking that you had. or could get on your own; the strength, education, and training to make it on your own; it is deciding that you have been told a pack of lies about yourself and your neighbors and your world. And it is deciding that God in Jesus Christ is telling the truth.” Jesus told his disciples on the eve of their desertion that “apart from Me, you can do nothing”. Repentance is all about Jesus because without Him you’ll just set yourself up all over again. It’s just that at “that” moment of repentance you feel or think that you are all alone … and nothing is further from the truth. At that moment Jesus is the One who is giving you the strength and the grace to turn .. to let go .. to change from the inside out. The world you live will try to tell you that it’s up to you and you alone to change or make something of your life. It’s not … and it only takes a moment …

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to humanity. God is faithful and He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with temptation He will also provide a way of escape, so that you are able to bear it.” 1 Cor. 10:13 Holman Christian Standard

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
