Being human …

“Why am I so depressed? Why this turmoil within me? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise Him, my Savior and my God. .. The Lord will send His faithful love by day; His song will be with me in the night — a prayer to the God of my life. .. Why am I so depressed? Why this turmoil within me? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise Him, my Savior and my God.” Psalm 42:5,8 Holman Christian Standard

There is a great story that only has One audience. It is the everyday story that is being written in your life. There are great highs and great lows .. through no fault or effort on your own. There are also great highs and great lows through failures and sometimes exhaustive efforts. And then there are the highs and lows that God sees in you. They are very real because this world is filled with broken people and broken places. And sometimes broken people achieve great moments and sometimes they walk into seemingly even lower moments. The low moments usually seem deeper than the higher moments. Why…? Because your old nature tried in vain to prevent low moments and tried with great effort to protect and repeat the high moments. There are real times of confusion .. frustration .. nearsightedness .. resentment .. and disappointment. Just as there are real times of clarity .. achievement .. clear-sightedness .. unselfishness .. and great rejoicing. And through it all God has “poured out” His even greater love through His Spirit. It’s greater than because the highs and lows will fade but His Spirit’s work is to revive hope .. to restore life .. and replenish your heart. Jesus isn’t going to walk away from your life. When you placed your trust in Him .. you gave Him access to every corner of your heart and life. That means He’s working in night and day in you. And His hope “does not disappoint”. That’s a promise He’s not going to break or fail .. no matter the time or place. David said: “Put your hope in God” because hope anywhere else will disappoint. He gives you the freedom through His Spirit to “put your hope” in Him. It is a gift from God and a gift you can give God. And it only takes a moment …

“and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Romans 5:5 New American Christian Standard

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
