Being fitted for the battle …

June 8, 2012

” … fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ.” 2 Cor. 10:5 The Message

The battle is real. It is so real everyday that there are moments, minutes, and hours when it doesn’t feel anything like a battle. And then there are those moments, minutes, and hours when you wonder if there is any relief or if anyone else has to battle the things you battle. This battle is about you being divided from the indwelling life of Christ and thinking that you have no choice but to fight in your own strength. It’s been going on a long time .. this battle. It is a battle for the already claimed territory of your life .. your heart .. and your mind. And as a Christ-Follower you are being shaped into a “structure of life” by Christ himself. Every facet of Christ’s life: truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation has been woven into every corner of your life. Being his disciple is learning how to live everyday as he lived … learning to trust as he trusted .. and learning how to fight as he fought. There wasn’t a moment where Jesus fought on his own. God’s Word was the Living Word’s indispensable weapon against every form of evil .. half-truth .. and Christ-denying lie. And it is to be your indispensable weapon as well. Jesus prayed that the Father would protect you from the Evil One. He’s sent you into the world you live in to display his life. And the display of His life in you is found in a life of grace infused with truth .. righteousness .. peace .. faith .. and salvation. They are more than words. They are life words and life weapons that God has given you for the battle. The battles are real: loneliness .. condemnation .. unforgiveness .. substances .. sex .. choosing yourself over others .. fear .. depression .. living in shame .. living truthfully .. and the everyday battle of living for Christ or yourself. The list of battles goes on and on. Whatever is in front of your life … it only takes a moment …

“Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon” Ephesians 6:13-17 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
