Seeing from both sides …

June 13, 2012

“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.” Hebrews 4:12-13 New American Standard

God goes out of His way to throw open the doors of his heart for you. He’s never held back when it came to making it clear about the life He wants you to live and the life He has made available through Jesus. And even that is covered by His Word to insure and secure your life to His. His Word is living. That means that God is speaking the same language that He spoke to Abraham .. to Esther .. to Jonah .. to the woman at the well .. to the roof-lowered man .. to a jewish prosecutor turned apostle .. and all the way through history to you! He’s speaking truth and grace into your heart. He’s speaking into all the broken places .. damaged places .. and diseased places infected by this toxic world. He’s speaking into all those hidden places in your life. He’s speaking into all the layers that pit you against yourself and God. The world’s great lie is that you possess within yourself the skills to know your own intentions .. sort through your own doubts .. and cut through all your own defenses. You don’t have those skills .. but we like to thing we do. Again … God isn’t out to manipulate you or overrun your senses. He wants to make you fully alive in His presence. And to do that means He loves you enough to cut away the scar tissue .. clear out the infection .. and pour His Living Word into the driest self-protected places of your life. God never cuts indiscriminately. The edges of His sword are sharpened with unrelenting grace. God’s Word is not meant to hem you in but to extend the reach of His life through yours. No one is outside of His reach. Particularly not you … it only takes a moment …

“God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s Word. We can’t get away from it — no matter what.” Hebrews 4:12-13 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
