The Forgiving Gospel…

July 3, 2012

“But it was our sins that did that to him, that ripped and tore and crushed him — our sins! He took the punishment, and that made us whole. Through his bruises we get healed. .. The plan was that he would give himself as an offering for sin so that he’d see life come from it — life, life, and more life. And God’s plan will deeply prosper through him.” Isaiah 53:5,10 The Message

He wasn’t asking for forgiveness. He had probably given up asking for anything. What difference would it really make? He wasn’t going to get up. Only God knew the utter depths of his heart .. his thoughts .. his longings .. his anger and frustration .. and just how deep the real disease had eaten into his life. So Jesus said five words: “Son, I forgive your sins”. Those are the very words each of us have to hear to be made whole. Sin causes all kinds of paralysis. Sometimes you reach a point where a few friends become your arms and legs .. your voice .. and the very strength you don’t possess to carry you to Jesus. They can do everything for you but cannot touch the abscess infecting your life. And in that moment when Jesus says those five words into your life .. you know instantly that His life was ripped, torn, and crushed for you. He’s never arrogant or pretending when He speaks of forgiveness. Your life means too much to him. Who would ever think that a Messiah would be ripped to pieces .. bruised for your healing .. and let His life be an offering for your sins? Sin is expensive and will leave you paralyzed. Forgiveness is the unbelievable gift that will make you more alive than you can ever imagine. God has only one plan: Life, life, and more life can only come from His Son. AND GOD’S PLAN WILL PROSPER THROUGH HIM … INTO YOU. And Jesus said: “Son” .. “Daughter” .. “I forgive your sins.” He’ll say it and say it over and over until you hear it. Your life means that much to Him. He is the Forgiver and Forgiveness … and He only takes a moment …

“When they weren’t able to get in because of the crowd, they removed part of the roof and lowered the paraplegic on his stretcher. Impressed by their bold belief, Jesus said to the paraplegic, “Son, I forgive your sins.” Mark 2:4-5 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
