Holy … and He means it …

July 11, 2012

“Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love.” Ephesians 1:4 The Message

“Holy” is the very substance you become through Jesus Christ. It’s not a job description. It’s not measurable by how you act .. feel .. or behave. In the O.T. a man lost his life when he innocently tried to keep The-God-box from hitting the ground. Everyone assumed God wouldn’t mind … but He did. And on top of it all, He called His people to be what they could never be: Holy. And you are called into this very same relationship: Holy. God makes you holy through His love. We assume what that means and we don’t want to think about how impossible it is to love a God who calls us to be what we can never become: Holy. But God doesn’t hold back when it comes to your life. He’s making your life holy in Christ. And what do you have to do? Trust Him to do what He says He will do. How does God do such a thing through all the ordinary moments and plans of your day? Through the indwelling life of His Son in you. You can’t act holy enough or promise God anything. You can only trust Him today and then relax. But make no mistake about God’s intentions about your life today. He is making your life holy and whole through His Son and He is keeping you “fit” for when He returns. You’ll either relax in the truth that God is completely dependable or you’ll walk through this day with a layer of worry that your life is on your shoulders. It only takes a moment …

“May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together — spirit, soul, and body — and keep you fit for the coming of our Master Jesus Christ. The One who called you is completely dependable. If He said it, he’ll do it.” 1 Thes. 5:23-24 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
