From His Life …

July 16, 2012

“I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak his praises. I will boast only in the Lord; let all who are helpless take heart. Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt his name together.” Ps. 34:1-3 New Living Translation

This Psalm was written when David was on the run … hiding .. being hunted .. and acting as if he had lost his mind. And out of this moment he writes of praising the Lord .. continually. Where there was no comfort he found it in the Lord. When there was no refuge he recalled the Lord’s protection and help. In the midst of being homeless he remembered that the Lord heard his call for help. There are any number of times and moments when the outside pressures conspire to suffocate you and drive you toward despair. The very real reality of your life in Christ is that the Lord will never abandon you .. forsake you .. or forget you. He is your refuge .. your help .. your joy .. your rescuer .. and the One who comes alongside you when you are brokenhearted. Everyone faces those moments. Real joy is found in Christ. He lived his life in relationship to his Father and he will live his life in you in the same way. David sang about the Lord saving him from all his troubles when he was on the run. “We put our trust in the Lord. He is our help and shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord. for our hope is in you alone” (33:20-21). The true love of Christ is unfailing and the truth of His love in you is that you are constantly living in a failing world. Even when you fail … Christ will not fail you. And just maybe today you will be the very life that reaches out to help someone who has fallen or is too exhausted to go any further. And you remind them of God’s faithfulness and help .. just as He has helped you and will help you again and again. And today … it only takes a moment …

“The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed”. Ps. 34:17-18 New Living Translation

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
