“So, here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday ordinary life — your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life — and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.” Romans 12:1 The Message

IT takes God’s help to “place” everything about your life in His hands. It takes God’s help to let Him takeover the business of running your life. The world’s messages are constantly about you taking control .. about you determining your steps .. and about you choosing to live your life your way. All of that gets tossed upside down when Christ offers to exchange His life for yours. He’s actually serious about turning your “ordinary life” into everyday moments where His life unexpectedly breaks through into lives around you. He’s actually serious about changing you from the inside out as you focus your life in Christ. Somehow it seems like “you” should have more to do .. more responsibility .. and more demands by God before He’ll use your life. But instead, the Lord wants you to learn to love the life He is living in you. And that’s where His grace comes into play in your life. The Lord never hides what His plans for you are: “well-formed maturity”. That means He intends for your life to a resurrection display of His life. He’s not asking to pretend. Jesus isn’t trying to break your will .. but He has promised to make His home in you as you abide in Him. This world offers all kinds of shortcuts to improve yourself or achieve “your” dreams. Jesus promises that you will find yourself when you lose yourself in Him. And that can feel overwhelming in scope and practice. What if God is really serious about shaping your everyday life? What if God is serious about bringing out the best in you .. not you trying your best .. but God bringing out His best in you? And what about today …. it only takes a moment …

“Don’t become so well adjusted to our culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” Romans 12:2 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
