When God moves in …

September 14, 2012

“…that old way of life has to go. It’s rotten through and through. Get rid of it! And then take on an entirely new way of life — a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you.” Ephesians 4:22-24 The Message

A WWII English veteran travelled the world saying: “The christian life is Christ, because He is the christian life.” It takes Christ to get rid of your old life and it takes Christ to create a fresh start in you. But God doesn’t overrun you or place you on the sidelines while He’s at work. He calls you to join Him in this new life of putting on the “new you” found in Christ. It isn’t a new life that once you are “saved” you are now on your own to finish. God’s reproducing his son’s character in you. He sees everything in your life .. past .. present .. and future. He’s not only working in your life .. He’s working through your life so that others can see the difference of a life made new in Christ and a life once outside of Christ. It’s not up to you to make others see the difference. That’s God’s business. Yours is to live this new life as his representative. There is a huge difference between a God-fashioned life and a self-fashioned life. When God moves in he lifts all those internal weights you are carrying and using to make life work and measure how well you are living. That old way of life is “rotten through and through”. The best you can do is clean it up. God’s best is an “entirely new way of life”. And God’s best is His only way. The great day-to-day miracle of His grace is that God is working through all of the rooms and stuff you have packed away. That’s where Jesus moves in and goes to work. That’s what He is doing in you today. And to join Him … it only takes a moment …

“Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life burgeons! … We’re Christ’s representatives. God uses us to persuade men and women to drop their differences and enter into God’s work of making things right between them.” 2 Corinthians 5:17-19 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
