Focus for the day …

September 20, 2012

“in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed the heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.” Hebrews 12:2 New American Standard

You can’t go around Jesus. His life spans the farthest corners of your life. Is there any louder declaration of God’s purpose than the Son is God’s final word for your life? In the Bible, Jesus touches the lowest .. discarded .. and forgotten. He’s the unhurried heir who has all the time in the world for you. His sharpest words are towards those who make God harsh .. unapproachable .. and unknowable. The Jesus of the Bible wants to be known .. trusted .. and invited into the story and unfolding art of your life. After all .. he made you and exchanged all of his joy for the cross .. for you. We fix our eyes on Jesus because he is the only One who can make sense out of our lives in this world. Without him .. you have to keep adding something .. one more piece .. one more item to make life work .. to hold it together .. to hold you together. We look at this Son and we see the One who chooses to walk to the end of our darkest paths in order to restore .. redeem .. and ransom us. We focus our eyes of Jesus because in Him there is room for your life. We focus our eyes on Jesus only to discover that he has already focused his eyes on “me”. Is there anyone else who you would really trust to be the author and perfecter of your faith? His life is the finishing work of your life. You can finally rest from having to finish the work of putting your life together and making it whole. Jesus .. the Son .. the Heir .. the Final Word is perfecting your life in his grace and goodness. We fix our eyes on Jesus because you begin to realize that he isn’t going to turn his face from you. We fix our eyes on Jesus because he brings the world into focus through his life. We fix our eyes on Jesus … because it only takes a moment …

“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2 New American Standard

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
