Room for you …

October 3, 2012

“We look at this Son and see the God who cannot be seen. We look at this Son and see God’s original purpose in everything created.” Colossians 1:15 The Message

When you look at Jesus you are seeing what God is like. When you are trying to figure out what your life looks like and how it fits into this world .. you look at this Son. It goes against everything we’ve been taught in this world. You don’t find yourself by looking at yourself. You find you by looking at Jesus. And to do that, God begins working patiently and compassionately around .. through .. and in all the issues .. dislocated parts .. fears .. insecurities .. and longings in your life. How? Through this same Son. There’s room for your life in Christ .. all the room you need and more than you could ever imagine. All the sharp angles of your life .. all the wounded places .. and all the neglected or numb areas find their proper place in Christ. There isn’t just a little piece of God for you. There is all of Christ for your life. There’s room for your life .. all of it. There’s not just room for the good parts of you. There’s room for everything in your life. God isn’t waiting for you to sort out the good from the bad or the acceptable from the unacceptable. He holds out His Son with the full knowledge of your life and invites you “take hold of” .. “to trust in” .. and “to step into” the One whose life is everything you long for. You prepare yourself to hear Him say how disappointed He has been with your life. You just know He’s going to condemn all those little things you hate about yourself. You hold your breath hoping you might be lucky enough to pass His scrutiny. And suddenly you discover that this word called “faith” is simply the God filled room where you find love .. and life .. and a Son who can’t stop smiling at you. As one old pastor says: You don’t have to wear those grave clothes any longer. There’s room for you. It only takes a moment …

“So spacious is he, so roomy, that everything of God finds it proper place in him without crowding.” Colossians 1:19 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
