You are just the same as …

OCTOBER 22, 2012

“The mystery is that people who have never heard of God and those who have heard of him all their lives (what I’ve been calling outsiders and insiders) stand on the same ground before God. They get the same offer, same help, same promises in Christ Jesus.” The Message is accessible and welcoming to everyone, across the board.” Ephesians 3:5-6 The Message

When a Roman prisoner wrote about the height .. depth .. width .. and length of the love of God in Christ, he was describing how much your life would expand into the fullness that only God can produce. The problem with sin is that it makes your life narrow .. suspicious of extravagant mercy .. restraining of grace .. and generally a life that becomes brittle and self-defined. The uncomfortable mystery of Jesus Christ is how He puts every life who trusts him on the “same ground”. You and I receive the “same offer” in such different situations and circumstances. You share the “same help” as someone who has walked with God forty years or four minutes. You live in the “same promise” of God’s faithfulness over your entire life. And so does any outsider or insider who welcomes Jesus in their lives. That very word “welcome” seems so slippery and undefined because we want clearly defined boundaries and spiritual measurements. Some of us struggle a long time to let God be the sole and sovereign owner of this mystery of Christ. What Jesus wants for you is a life filled with all the rich same-ness of His life. It makes you see others as standing on the same ground you once stood on unaware. It makes you lavishly offer the same help you received in Christ … at just the right time and moment. It makes you walk into this day with the grace-filled promise that His promise over your life is the same promise that was yours yesterday. In only a moment you are just the “same as” but totally different because of Jesus. And all this same-ness takes only a moment …

“As you read over what I have written to you, you’ll be able to see for yourselves into the mystery of Christ.” Ephesians 3:4 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
